The 2010 harvest is complete at Talinga Grove and we are relieved and excited!
Harvest this year was in 2 parts - our oil harvest in late April and our precious Kalamata harvest which has just wrapped up.
Overall the yield was good, and thankfully quality was again fantastic. Australian Olive Association President Paul Miller was looking forward to the 2010 harvest, saying that 'fruit quality was patchy but not looking too bad' across Australia. In SA growers across the state have complained about extreme heatwaves experienced throughout the early growing season (around fruit set), however at Talinga Grove we were fortunate to escape the effects. Oil varieties harvested this year included Frantoio, Leccino, Picual, Manzanillo.
Kalamata harvest was a little scary to begin with as mother nature intervened and did not send down any rain, so we had to scramble to get the fruit off the trees before it began drying out! Again we had some fortune and the quality looks again like it will be fantastic and the fruit is HUGE! We were able to borrow an olive grading machine which made life a little easier, and much faster! See images attached to get a feel for our 2010 harvest!

Talinga Grove has tasted success for its perfect Kalamata Olives, scooping the pool at the National Table Olive Competition in March 2010. Talinga Grove came home with 3 gold medals, and Bob Gilliver (Olive Master!) could not be more thrilled! "It's fantastic for our family business and also for the industry...that a small producer like us focussed on quality can come away with the trophy!". Talinga Grove won Gold for the Kalamata Class, Gold for Best in Class and then the major prize of Best in Show. To read more about our award and our thrilling experience click here.

At Talinga Grove we are currently preparing for Harvest 2010! This will be the first harvest for the Jenke/Gilliver families, having taken ownership of TG in mid 2009.
